Letter from the School Nurse

Dear Parents:

School attendance is vital to the success of your child; however, unexpected illnesses and injuries do occur. In order to assist you in determining when an absence from school will be necessary for your child, I have attached a copy of IUSD Parent Illness and Injury Guidelines for School Attendance.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that students are not permitted to have any medication on school campus, whether prescription or non-prescription, without a parent’s written permission AND a physician’s order. If your child requires any medication during school hours, either regularly or on an as-needed basis, please bring the medication and the completed Request for Medication Administration Form to the health office.

Please be aware that if your student sustains an injury that requires crutches or a wheelchair on campus, we do need a note of clearance from the doctor, indicating that the device has been prescribed and the student is able to safely use it.

Lastly, I have attached an informational letter regarding students and head lice and what to do if you suspect your child may have head lice.

If you have any question or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,

Krista Elliott, RN BN
IUSD School Nurse
